Obituary

Barbara Lee Smith, 71, affectionately known by her nieces and nephews as "Aunt BeeBee" and "Beebs," departed this life on May 16, 2024, at her cherished home, "The Corner" in Williamsburg, also known as Stumptown. She was born the beloved daughter on January 17, 1953, to the late Rosetta Johns Smith and the late Willie Lee Smith, Sr.

Barbara was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1971 where she was an active member of the Library and Yearbook staff. She served as Secretary. She was also a proud member of the Glee Club. After graduation, Barbara embarked on a diverse career, providing childcare for the Geiske and Hawkins families, working as a teacher's assistant with the Talbot County Public Schools, serving as a Family and Community Planning Nurse with the Talbot County Health Department, and later as a Patient Registrar with The Easton Diagnostic Center. Barbara dedicated ten years as an Office Clerk to the Comptroller's Office in Annapolis. In 2000, she began her tenure with the Dorchester Department of Social Services as a Fiscal Technician, retiring in 2015.

Barbara was a long standing member of Scotts United Methodist Church, where she was an active volunteer with the Soup Kitchen. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women of Faith. Whenever there was a special service going on at the church, Barbara never hesitated to make her chocolate on vanilla or chocolate on chocolate cake.

Barbara's favorite pastime was spending as much time as she could with her Irish twin sister, Carolyn. Fondly referred to as "The Golden Girls" by their niece. They did everything together, from shopping to having lunch, traveling, visiting families in various states, enjoying bus excursions with the Senior Center, and going to the "Slots." She will fondly be remembered during the Christmas season by her nieces and nephews for her famous "Christmas Cookies." Nobody could make them like Aunt BeeBee. Barbara especially loved shopping on QVC!

Barbara leaves behind to cherish memories with her siblings: Lorraine E Caldwell (Richard), Pastor Hazel Kilpatrick, Carolyn S Hayman (Lenwood), Gloria Jean Matthews (Carroll), Willie L Smith, Jr. (Daphan), Keiford Copper, Sr. (Afreda), Christopher Green, Tanisha Green, and Anthony Green; an aunt, Harriette Clayton of Easton; an uncle, Isaac Franklin Williams (Rhonda) of California; her special niece, Sierra Jenkins (Ty), who was like a daughter will miss her dearly along with her godchildren: Lenwood W. Hayman, Jr. (Alexandra), Briona Phillips and Terynn Laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings: Ray A Smith, Sr., Matthew W Smith, Dorthea Greene, and Sherwood Jackson; one brother-in-law, Juan Kilpatrick; a niece, Tyshika Askins; two nephew: Ray A Smith, Jr. and Keiford Cooper, Jr.

Barbara's life was filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments with family and friends. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who know her.
