IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty (Cornish)
Harris
March 1, 1935 – February 4, 2025
Betty Harris, 89 of Mardela Springs, departed this life Tuesday evening, February 4, 2025, at her residence. She was born March 1, 1935, in Cambridge Maryland to the late Charles Edward and Inez Wheatley Cornish.
Betty spent most of her years in Cambridge. She attended Maces Lane High School. Soon after leaving school, Betty was united in Holy Matrimony Edward Benjamin Stanley. Soon after that marriage ended, Betty married Willie Reginald Harris. In Betty's spare time she enjoyed cooking, gardening, driving, and spending time with the grandchildren. Betty was no stranger to work. She spent over 30 years working for the former Allen Chicken plant in Hurlock, MD. After which, she spent about 15 years working and serving at Mallard Bay Nursing Home until she retired.
Betty received a strong Christian foundation as a young girl. She attended United Missionary Baptist Church where she served under Rev Rene' Smith on Phillips Street. Betty continued her Christian journey while attending United Faith Church of Deliverance under the leadership of Bishop George A Copeland in Salisbury. There she became one of the Mothers at the church. Mother Betty was indeed a Prayer Warrior. She encouraged her family continuously to engage in a closer walk with the Lord.
Betty was a beloved figure of Cambridge, Mardela Springs, and Salisbury. Mother Harris will be sadly missed. She lived a rich life in service and kindness. Betty will always be remembered for her laughter, sassiness, huge smile and her love for children. Betty made an impact on everyone who had the privilege of having her in their lives. She was sweet, strong, brave, courageous, selfless, and best of all, gave love that was untouchable. She dedicated her life to work, family, and the Lord. She will be missed terribly.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Betty was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Milton, Brice, William Sr, and James Cornish; a sister: Audrey Cornish; one son, Larry "Puddin" Darnell (Hazel) Cornish and Carolyn Major.
Betty leaves to cherish fond memories with her last sister, Leona Demby of Mardela Springs, 2 grandsons: Alvin Stanley (Margarita) of Mardela Springs and Demetrius Garner of Baltimore; a sister-in-law, Ruth Cornish of Cambridge; 10 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. We were blessed to have had Betty raise so many generations of children. We will hold Betty in our hearts until we can hold you in Heaven.
