Gloria Roberts Wimberly, 86, affectionately known by many as Aunt Gloria, was born on January 16, 1937, in Easton, MD. She departed her earthly life on November 1, 2023, at her residence. She was a beloved member of the community, known for her warm and kind-hearted nature. Gloria lived each day to the fullest, always bringing joy and positivity to every event she attended. She had a genuine passion for taking care of others and dedicated much of her time to checking on the well-being of her friends and family.
Gloria attended Robert Russa Moton Junior/Senior High School and graduated in 1955. She furthered her education at Morgan State University, where she excelled academically. After completing her studies, Gloria embarked on a fulfilling career in the healthcare field. She worked at the Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Queens, NY, for many years before transitioning to caretaking for extended family members in both New York and Maryland.
On September 26,1970, Gloria united in marriage to the love of her life, Herschel W. Wimberly. She was married by the late Reverend Harold M. Davis pastor of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Easton. They were married for 52 years and resided in Flushing, NY until July 1998, when they moved to Easton.
In her free time, Gloria cherished spending quality moments with her loved ones. She valued the importance of family and friends and enjoyed traveling during her younger years. Additionally, Gloria actively participated in various community events, including those organized by the NAACP.
Gloria's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Her devotion to her religious community brought her great comfort and strength throughout her journey.
Gloria was preceded in death by her loving husband Herschel Wimberly; her parents: Lucinda Powell and stepfather Phillip L. Powell; a devoted cousin, Donald L. Cooper Sr. whom she referred to as "brother."
Gloria will be deeply missed by her goddaughter, Cecily Newton (Paul) of Trappe, MD; honorary niece and nephew, Dontia Cooper of Owings Mills, MD and Donald Cooper, Jr. (Brittany) of Cambridge; a bonus niece, Tania Copper of Denton, and their children whom she embraced as great nieces and nephew: Donasja Cooper, Daniel Pritchett (Sabrina) , Aizhane Newton, Nadiya Cooper, Natalya, Cooper, Noelle Cooper, and Nori Newton. Gloria also leaves cherished memories with a close cousin Poinier Roberts of Baltimore, and a goddaughter, Enid Wilform of Charlotte, NC.
Please join us in remembering and celebrating the life of Gloria Wimberly. Her warm spirit, kind heart, and dedication to others will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
