Wimberly
January 4, 1932 – November 13, 2022
Herschel W. Wimberly, son of the late Walter Wimberly, Sr. and Plummie White Wimberly was born January 4, 1932, in Canadian County, El Reno, Oklahoma. He departed his earthly life on November 22, 2022, with his devoted wife Gloria R Wimberly by his side. He received his former education in the public school of Oklahoma. He graduated with the Class of 1950 from Booker T Washington High School in El Reno. Herschel matriculated at Langston University (Langston, Oklahoma) majoring in Chemistry with a dream of becoming a pharmacist.
Herschel enlisted in the Armed Services on September 2, 1952, to August 6, 1954, ending with an Honorable Discharge. He was inducted at the height of the Korea conflict. He was discharged with the rank of "Corporal." Herschel received the Korean service Medal, United Nations Services Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. After his Armed Service discharge, Herschel traveled to Queens, New York seeking gainful employment. He was briefly employed with Lockheed Aircraft. He took the NYPD and NYFD exams passing both but chose NYPD to become one of the New York's finest (New York Policeman). Employed January 1, 1960, to April 1979 (20 years), he retired from NYPD and became a Lieutenant in the Department of Security at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Queens, New York for 15 years.
On September 26, 1970, Herschel united in marriage to the love of his life, Gloria Roberts Wimberly by the late Rev Harold M Davis (Pastor of St Mark United Methodist Church). They were married for 52 years and resided in Flushing, New York until July 1998. Afterwards, they relocated to Easton, Maryland. Mr. Wimberly thirsted for knowledge with an interest in Health-related reports, sports, world affairs, and technology. He enjoyed a great tennis match. Herschel was a great husband, terrific uncle, and caring cousin.
Endless memories of Herschel will be cherished by his wife Gloria R Wimberly of 52 years; 4 nieces: Eunice R Wimberly of Oklahoma, Donna K Wimberly Texas, Tabilyn M Onukaogu (Simon) of Texas, and Wallene J Wimberly of Colorado; 4 nephews: LaFranz O Wimberly Sr of Oklahoma, Victort A Wimberly (Pamela) of Colorado, Kelvin M Wimberly of Colorado, and Frank Darnell Hubbard of Morristown, New Jersey; one goddaughter, Cecily T. Newton (Paul) of Cambridge, Maryland, and a host of other relatives and extended family.
His change has come, give him to dwell in the house of thy fatherhood in Heaven through the merit and grace of Jesus Christ Thy Son.
