IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jacqueline Mabeleen
(Gates) Taylor
August 11, 1940 – February 1, 2026
Jacqueline Mabeleen Jones‑Gates (Taylor) was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 1, 2026. She was the beloved daughter of the late Ira Linwood Jones and Launia Odell Mitchell. Affectionately known as "Jackie" to family and friends, she was educated in Wicomico County.
Jackie found her happy place in serving others as a CNA/GNA, where she faithfully cared for those in times of distress. Through her friendship with Pastor Essie Green, she embraced the call which Christ had placed upon her life and found peace in salvation. She loved the Word of God and the move of His Spirit, and she took great joy in giving toward the work of the Lord, often declaring, "Ain't nobody gonna get my tithe!"
She delighted in God's creation and found joy in flowers, trees, and nature. Known for her humor, Nana could be comical, yet she was steadfast and serious about serving God. One of her greatest joys was hearing her grandsons, "The Anointed Ones," minister in song.
Jackie was an excellent cook whose yeast rolls never lasted long after coming out of the oven. Her macaroni tuna salad was one of her signature dishes. She was an avid football enthusiast and a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers; however, she enjoyed watching any game being played. She also loved participating in sports and especially enjoyed slow‑pitch softball, where her favorite position was back catcher.
In her leisure time, Jackie enjoyed watching old‑school movies. The Incredible Mr. Limpet brought her laughter every time she watched it. She also loved classic cartoons and The Little Rascals.
Those who preceded her in death include her husband, Norman Harley Gates, Jr. (Junior); her son, Norman Harley Gates, III (Corky); her daughter, Veretta Charlene Hutley (Charlene); her grandsons, Brandon Dontre' Robinson and Tyler Lee Fountain; and her granddaughter, Taylor Sheni Fountain.
Left to cherish her loving memory are her children: Glendora R. Trower (Joseph), Veronica K. Appleby (Daniel), and Eugene M. Riley; her grandchildren: Vannie Coles III (Janelle), Daniel Appleby, Kienda Goslee, Franklin Robinson, Jr (Tynekia)., David Robinson, Jr., Davon Robinson, DaNelle McNair (William "BJ"), Tora Parsons, Lamar Robinson (Shakimbra), Allana Horsey (Terrance), and Azalia Riley; 35 great‑grandchildren, 14 great‑great‑grandchildren, her sister, Diane Polk; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
