IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Matthew
Nutter, Sr
April 26, 1945 – June 22, 2022
James "Jimmy" Matthew Nutter, Sr. after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Anchorage Health Care Center in Salisbury, Maryland (MD). Born April 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Jackson Monroe Nutter and Hattie Waller Nutter of Salisbury, MD.
Jimmy was educated in the public schools of Wicomico County, graduating in 1963 from Salisbury High School in Salisbury, MD. He continued his education by completing numerous in-service courses in sales and management.
Jimmy started working for Patterson Produce as a truck driver delivering to small stores. He also held positions of maintenance and supervision for Hecht Co. and Grey's Transportation. He immediately earned the reputation as a hard worker, and this would follow him throughout his career. He would eventually move to Moore's Lumber Building Suppliers of Salisbury where he worked until its closing in 1997. His hard work and dedication were noticed, appreciated, and rewarded and he advanced from loading dock worker/driver, to supervisor of the loading dock, to salesman, to Assistant Store Manager. It was at Moore's that he would discover his labor of love, "supplying and meeting the needs of his customers with excellence." Even though his movements began to slow, his loyal customers would still wait for him. When they were approached by other salespeople, the common response would be, "No thanks. I'll wait for Jimmy." They waited not just on his expertise, but because they knew they could count on him to deliver. In 1991, he was recognized for his "excellence in customer service."
After Moore's closed its doors in 1997, Jimmy then transitioned to Lowe's in Salisbury where he held the position of contractor salesman. His area of expertise was special order windows and doors. Jimmy retired from Lowe's in 2005.
He leaves to treasure his memory, his wife of 52 years, Ethel "Juanita" Morris Nutter; a daughter Jacqueline Dockery (Leon) of Battleboro, NC; three granddaughters, Amani and Tracy of Battleboro, NC, and Jaymey Nutter of Hebron, MD; three grandsons, Richard Robinson and William Brown of Charlotte, NC and Josiah Dockery of Battleboro, NC; a sister Rachael Johnson of Salem, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Sheila Kilgoe (Quinton), Salisbury MD and Tina Lockhart (Eddie) of San Antonio, TX; one brother-in-law, Jerome Morris (Althea) Lincoln, DE; and a friend-daughter Lynn Brown of Salisbury MD. He also leaves a host of aunts, cousins, precious friends, and his caregivers Vicki Cook, Jackie Melton, and Claretta Majors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Matthew Nutter, Jr. a sister, Gazie Winder, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Johnson.
