Jerry Tyrone Burroughs was born December 11, 1944, in Dorchester County, Maryland to the late Geraldine Burroughs Kane and the late John Banks. Jerry entered his eternal rest on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Compass Hospice Care in Centreville, MD at the age of 77.
Jerry was educated in Dorchester County, Philadelphia, PA and Raleigh, NC public schools. He was a 1962 graduate of Mace's Lane High School in Cambridge, MD. On April 24, 1963, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served and explored the world for twelve years. Jerry completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and from there, he received orders to Quartermaster School at Fort Lee Virginia, to become a food service specialist.
Jerry's military career consisted of tours at Osan A.B. in Republic of South Korea, Aviano A.B. in Northern Italy and Det. #6 Gambarie, Reggio Calabria Southern Italy, Matagorda Island A.F. Range in Texas, Miyako-jima (Naha A.B.) Okinawa, and RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, serving duties in London. While in London, Jerry attended the Royal Army Catering Corp. in Aldershot, England where he became a chef, working in some of the finest hotels in London, particularly the Grand Metropolitan Hotel on Embassy Row. Jerry was responsible for several military dining halls with airmen, civilians, and foreign nationals under his supervision. In Southern Italy, Jerry coordinated the requisition of food supplies between the United States Air Force and the United States Navy at Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily and the government of Italy. Jerry was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in February 1974.
When Jerry returned to Cambridge, he began his employment as manager of Pizza Hut in 1974, and he was later employed with Bumble Bee Tuna Seafood. Jerry concluded his career with Cambridge Wire Cloth, Inc. until his retirement in 1998, after 23 years of service.
As an active participant in both local and state politics, Jerry helped spearhead the first chapter of the A. During the tenth anniversary of the Alumni association, Jerry was very instrumental in helping to create the first alumni anniversary booklet and correlated with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Association to obtain personalized Mace's Lane High Alumni license plates.
In 1995, Jerry reaffirmed his faith in Christ as a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
