IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roy Carroll
Niskey, Jr
November 8, 1938 – January 9, 2025
Roy C. Niskey Jr., of Salisbury, Maryland, peacefully transitioned from labor to rest on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 86, at his home. He was born on November 8, 1938, in Salisbury, MD, to the late Roy Carroll Niskey Sr. and the late Mattie Marie Goslee.
Roy was a proud graduate of the former Salisbury High School, Class of 1957. In October 1961, he was inducted into the United States Army, where he served honorably until his release in September 1963. During his time in service, he earned several medals, badges, certificates, and ribbons, including recognition as a top-ranking Sharpshooter with the M14 rifle. In September 1967, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve.
After his military service, Roy worked at E.J. Trader & Son in Salisbury, where he and his brother Ben specialized in manufacturing windows. He later pursued his passion for art by earning a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, graduating in 1975. Drawing and painting were among his favorite hobbies, and he briefly taught art in Worcester County Public Schools.
Roy dedicated 30 years of his life to the State of Maryland at Deer's Head Center. In addition to his work there, he served as a health aide to Freddie Cross of Fruitland, MD, for many years. After retiring, Roy continued to stay active by working for Wicomico County Liquors for an additional 6-7 years. Known for his impeccable style, Roy was always dressed to the nines, even when mowing the lawn.
A lifelong music lover, Roy enjoyed a variety of genres, with music playing constantly throughout his home—yes, even in the bathroom! Music kept his feet moving he loved to dance. He also had a love for boxing and Western films, which he fondly referred to as "shoot 'em-ups."
Roy will be remembered for his cool style, his passion for fine cars (which he kept as sharp and clean as himself), and his warm, infectious personality. He was a man who cherished family, friends, and life.
Roy leaves to cherish his memories with his beloved wife of 34 years, Theresa; 4 children: Carol McCoy (Sidney) of Salisbury, Tina Niskey of Baltimore, Benita Tilghman (Ernest) of Fairmont, and Andre Niskey Sr. ("Sonny Boy") (Keisha) of Temperanceville; one sister, Janice Tillman of Baltimore; 9 grandchildren: Miesha Brown (Royce),Lakeisha Gatling (Micheal), Jeff Foreman Jr., Christina Parks (Malik), Andre Niskey Jr., Andrea Niskey "Lil Mattie," Alexis Tilghman, LaQuinthia (Queenie) Quinton (Allen), Corey Savage; 11 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters in-law: Pandoria King, Romaine Young, Peggy Hayward (Hilton) and Velma Stanley; 3 brothers in-laws: Paul Young, Richard Young and Dawayne Young; his goddaughter, Lindra David (Shawn); and god grandchildren: Makayla and Marcus Griffin.
