Obituary

William Tyrone Bailey, 70 of Easton, passed away on October 8, 2024, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center of Easton, MD with his loving family by his side. William was born in Easton on November 22, 1953, to his parents William Charles Bailey and Elsie Mae Greene-Bailey. He attended White Marsh Elementary School, Idlewild Middle School and Moton High School. Following school, William worked at Ford Noble Rebuilders in Easton as well as Allen Foods in Cordova, MD before relocating to Bridgeport, CT.

In Bridgeport, he began a career in truck driving. It was there he earned the nickname "Dog", due to the "accent" his coworkers and friends claimed he had when he said the word "dog." He drove a tractor trailer for Allied Movers and eventually for Enviro Express from which he retired in 2016. After that time, he relocated back to Maryland so that he and his wife could be closer to family. Once back in Easton, he worked for three years at the local Weis Markets.

In his free time, William enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. Bowling became a weekly family outing, where they won several competitive games. He discovered a passion in restoring his cherished Mercury Cougar. Although he often found joy in his solitude, he loved to have his wife join him on longer trips on his truck or spend quality time together at home. He also loved his wife's cooking and appreciated the loving care she provided. He liked to sneak candy to his grandchildren when they would visit. He had a playful sense of humor that often brought a touch of sarcasm to family interactions.

William is preceded in death by his beloved parents William and Elsie, as well as his brother Timothy Bailey; and a sister Frances Kay Bailey-Myers.

He is survived by his loving wife, Portia L Thomas-Bailey of Easton; a sister, Elsie Bailey-Groce of Easton; a stepson, Donald L Cooper, Jr. (Brittany) of Cambridge; a stepdaughter, Cecily T Newton (Paul) of Trappe, MD; a goddaughter, Whitney S Hanks of Hartford, CT; 7 grandchildren: Donasja Cooper, Daniel Pritchett, Nadiya Cooper, Natalya Cooper, Noelle Cooper, Aizhane Newton and Carter Thomas; one great-grandchild, Nori Newton, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
